Conscious gardening
that feeds the body & soul

The knowledge of saving water by using clay pot irrigation has been around for thousands of years, originating in the arid regions of the world. All you have to do is every 3-5 days lift the lid of the Olla to see if it needs to be refilled. It is a simple, organic method of easily delivering deep water to the roots of your plants without any run-off or waste. When the 2-Gallon Olla pot is buried neck deep in the ground & filled with water, it begins to slowly release the water through the pores of the clay. Once the ground & rootball of the surrounding plants have received even moisture, extra water will remain in the pot until the plants need more.

SBCC OLLA INSTALLATION PROJECT
While the earth's climate changes & times of drought are affecting many of the worlds desert & sub-tropical regions,
we cannot afford to continue depending on unsustainable conventional growing methods that use excess amounts of water. Santa Barbara City College's students in the Projects in Sustainability class recognize the need for a change & have been installing Olla demonstration gardens on campus to save water & educate others on how easy and fun it is to responsibly water public gardens as well as grow your own food.
